Two engineering students who were just 20 years old from BITS Pilani built Kamikaze drone. It wasn’t any project or anything but their own self initiated idea on which they started working in late 2023s. This took them 60 days with no initial funding from anyone. There was just their hostel room which they converted to a DIY lab set up and their late night hard work. The people behind India’s home made drones are: Jayant Khatri and Sourya Choudhury.
Made In India – Literally
Made in India does not remain just a slogan now. For years, we have just imported the aerial technology from foreign countries and spent crores on it, but not any more. Our youth is growing and making things which can be of great use to the Indian army, and is made according to the needs of our battlefield, and does not rely on others. This shows the growth of our country and how far we have come in terms of technology.
When these two college students decided to begin with something, they were not just building a product but they were solving a national problem. Their mission was to reduce India’s dependency on imported drones from other countries. They built everything from scratch.

This Is Something Rare – Here’s Why
- The drone flies at a speed of 300 kmph, which is almost 5 times faster than the standard ones.
- It has been designed in a way that it does not come under radar detection, making it difficult to spot them.
- The drone has the ability to strike with accuracy
- It is extremely easy to use and can be used even by the soldiers with no prior experience.
- It has been specially made according to India’s different kinds of lands like mountains and deserts.
- Completely made in India, which reduces the cost of it.
The Power of LinkedIn in Their Success
Jayant Khatri and Sourya Choudhury used LinkedIn to the best. They searched for the Indian Army Officers and the defense people and sent them personalized cold messages, including the details of their drones and their startup – Apollyon. Their consistency in approaching people helped them getting noticed and further getting contracts by the Indian Army, making a rare success for such a young start-up.

Young Minds Making Big Impact
This is not the story of a drone but a story of two young students who did not wait for the perfect timing and resources and lab, they just went for it and became successful. Instead of looking for a job, they solved the problem benefiting them, the country and the army. Their startup Apollyon shows how great things can even begin in a small hostel room. This shows that if u have the will to do something, you will surely do it and can also achieve success in it.
They combined their technical intelligence along with the need and created something unexpected which blew everyone’s mind. This is where the new India is heading. Also, if two 20-year-olds can make this happen just from their hostel room, then the one reading this can also. Believe in yourself and follow your instinct, creating a better future for yourself and the country.
